Happy August 19th! Today is my brother Mark’s 22nd birthday, and to honor the day, I’ve been sending him different bits and lyrics from Taylor Swift’s jam “22″ all day.
She’s a genius.
This morning was supposed to start with an early morning run, but I was so sore from yesterday’s run and yoga that I could barely move. I decided to let my muscles warm up this morning and run in the afternoon instead, and it all paid off. I ended up waking at 7:30 AM and whipping up oats and coffee for breakfast.
Today was beach day. Mom and I walked down to Fort Zachary Taylor State Park, which has one of the nicest beach on the island.
It was such a beautiful day and the ocean was like bath water. I could see straight to the bottom and the water was warmer than the pool. It was glorious.
We headed back to our condo around lunch time to have a mountain of vegetables. My mom made us salads packed with spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, chickpeas, and salsa. Yum.
We spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool reading and swimming, and around 4:00 PM I went out for my run.
I was able to run over 4 miles for the first time since being here, which was great because it is SO HARD TO BREATHE. The humidity is unbelievable so running is very, very challenging. I’m not pushing myself too hard, clearly, and really listening to my body.
Thankfully, though, around mile 2, it started to downpour. This really cooled me off and I was able to push through the end of my run. I ended up running a 7:30 average mile pace, which was awesome considering how hot it was.
Once I was showered and beautified, I ate a dinner made by mother. We enjoyed chicken and quinoa salad. In the salad went red quinoa, avocados, tomatoes, chickpeas, and some salsa.
Then it was time for a booze cruise! We boarded the Fury “Commotion of the Ocean” and enjoyed a live band, a group of European men, and our favorite employee-John-while watching the sun set.
Remember Mallory Square from yesterday? This is what it looks like from the water.
So cool. It was a wonderful day and I’m looking forward to tomorrow!!
